The European PV manufacturing Industry: analysis and policy guidance for 2020 and beyond - Edition I

This report records the statements made by a number of experts from Europe’s PV manufacturing industry interviewed between September 2014 and June 2016. It covers most sections of the manufacturing chain in Europe.

PV COSTS IN EUROPE 2014-2030, EU PV TECHNOLOGY PLATFORM

It has been shown that the PV module price will most likely to be halved again and BoS price will decrease by more than 35% by 2030, leading to an overall PV system CAPEX reduction of about 45%. It must be noted that this development does not require any major technology breakthroughs but is a natural cause from continuing efforts in reducing materials use, impoving efficiency and developing manufacturing processes. At the same time, PV system OPEX is expected to decrease by 30%. PV LCOE will decrease by 30-50% from 2014 to 2030, depending on the volume growth and learning rate.

PV Status Report 2014

The unique format of the Photovoltaic Status Report combines international up-to-date information of Photovoltaics. These data are collected on a regular basis from public and commercial studies and crosschecked with personal communications. Regular fact-finding missions with company visits, as well as meetings with officials from funding organisations and policy makers, complete the picture. Growth in the solar Photovoltaic sector has been robust. The Compound Annual Growth Rate over the last decade was over 50%, thus making photovoltaics one of the fastest growing industries at present. The PV Status Report provides comprehensive and relevant information on this dynamic sector for the public interested, as well as decision-makers in policy and industry. This publication is a Science and Policy Report by the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission.

A New Scheme for the Promotion of Renewable Energies in Developing Countries

The Federal Government has adapted its support for research and development in the energy sector to the new political framework data and priorities. Major priorities for future funding will be found in the fields of “energy efficiency” and “renewable energies”.

Energy research policy thus also pursues the strategy developed by the Federal Government for sustainable development and makes an important contribution to the protection of the Earth's atmosphere.

Vision Report

This vision report has been prepared by the Photovoltaic Technology Research Advisory Council (PV-TRAC), whose declared mission is to contribute to a rapid development of world-class, cost–competitive European photovoltaics  (PV) for sustainable electricity production.

The report identifies the major technical and non-technical barriers to the uptake of the technology and outlines a strategic research agenda designed to ensure a breakthrough of PV and an increase in deployment in the Union and worldwide. The Council proposes the use of a European Technology Platform as a mechanism to implement the strategy and achieve the wider goals defined in the vision.

 

STATUS OF PHOTOVOLTAICS IN THE EUROPEAN UNION 2008 NEW MEMBER STATES

The purpose of this report is to provide up-to date information about the photovoltaic (PV) sector within  European Union (EU) 12 New Member States (NMS) Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary,  Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia. This is already the 6th consecutive  report which has been prepared to give you comprehensive overview of the NMS achievements in the PV  field. The first report called “Status of Photovoltaics and Recommendations for PV Development in EU New Members and Candidate States” came out in 2003 within FP5 RTD PV-NAS-NET project, oriented on coordination of science and technology activities in PVsector within NewlyAssociated States.

 

STATUS OF PHOTOVOLTAICS IN THE EUROPEAN UNION 2009 NEW MEMBER STATES

The purpose of this report is to present market conditions, legal frameworks and political strategies of photovoltaic sector in the European Union 12 New Member States (NMS): Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary,  Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia. To get the wider overview of the status of PV, two countries associated with EU have been included: Croatia and Turkey.
